The Summer World University Games: The games are the world's largest event for student-athletes and the second-largest global Olympic multi-sport event, second only to the Olympic Games. Held every other year in the odd year, the Games feature the best collegiate and university athletes from over 150 countries competing in 15 compulsory sports and 3 optional sports during an approximately 2-week long event.

International University Sports Federation (FISU): Based in Lausanne, Switzerland, FISU is the international governing body for the Summer World University Games, the Winter World University Games, and World University Championships in over 30 sports.
World University Games

United States International University Sports Federation (USIUSF): Headquartered in Orlando, Florida, the USIUSF is the United States member of FISU. The USIUSF selects and supports a U.S. Host City to be its partner, whenever the USIUSF puts forth a bid for a major FISU event, such as the Summer World University Games.

North Carolina Bid Committee (NCBC): The NCBC is comprised of individuals who are helping with, supporting, and leading an initiative to recruit and host the 2027 Summer World University Games in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Cary area of North Carolina, commonly referred to as the Triangle.
World University Games
North Carolina's Bid for the 2027 Summer World University Games: Earlier in 2021, the USIUSF selected North Carolina's Triangle area to be its Host City Partner for the USIUSF's bid for the 2027 Summer World University Games. The formal bid process gets underway in September of this year, with the winner determined by no later than January 2023.
